The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has announced the commencement of construction on the highly anticipated Al-Urubah Park in Saudi Arabia. Spanning an impressive 754,000 square meters, this expansive park is a key component of the broader Green Riyadh initiative, strategically located at the intersection of Al Urubah Road and Prince Turki Bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road. Designed to enhance the quality of life for both residents and visitors, Al-Urubah Park promises to be a vibrant recreational hub.
In a competitive global tender, six international submissions were reviewed before the winning design was selected. The chosen plan features a stunning 12-meter elevated, 3-kilometer panoramic walkway that integrates modern technology with nature, offering visitors an interactive experience enhanced by augmented reality elements. Among the design highlights are the Al Laysan Valley pass and various permanent water features, which aim to create a serene environment.
The park is designed to cater to diverse age groups and interests, boasting a 14-kilometer walking track, lush green terraces, expansive open areas, and dedicated venues for events and sports. To further enrich the natural landscape, over 600,000 shrubs and trees will be planted, making up nearly 65% of the park’s total area.
Al-Urubah Park is a crucial element of the larger Green Riyadh program, which aims to transform the city by planting trees in residential neighborhoods, developing parks, enhancing streets and pedestrian pathways, and improving public infrastructure. This initiative seeks to lower urban temperatures, boost air quality, and elevate Riyadh’s standing as one of the most livable cities globally. The construction of Al-Urubah Park marks a significant step toward achieving these ambitious goals.
