Saudi Arabia is positioning itself to become a major player in the global cruise industry, aiming to attract 1.3 million cruise visitors by 2035. This initiative is a key part of the nation’s Vision 2030 framework, which seeks to diversify the economy and enhance tourism offerings. Notably, the cruise sector has seen a surge in popularity among the under-20 demographic, who represent the fastest-growing segment of cruise travelers, underscoring the demand for innovative and engaging onboard experiences.

To support this ambitious goal, Cruise Saudi is investing in the development of world-class cruise facilities across several key ports in the country. These facilities will accommodate larger cruise ships and facilitate a smoother arrival process. A recent report from MSC Cruises indicates a remarkable 40% increase in sailings from Saudi Arabia over a two-year period. Building on this momentum, MSC plans to offer over 20 distinct sailings from Jeddah to Aqaba, ranging from seven to fifteen nights, between November 2023 and April 2024.

In an exciting collaboration, WhiteWater is working alongside MSC Cruises to design a captivating array of attractions tailored to various age groups across more than ten ships. This partnership addresses the challenge of keeping guests entertained during longer voyages by creating family-friendly experiences in compact spaces. For example, the MSC Seascape features two AquaTube water slides that spiral thrillingly above the deck. Constructed from translucent fiberglass, these slides create alternating light and dark sensations, enhancing the excitement and providing breathtaking views of the ocean below. The AquaTubes are designed for guests over 102 cm tall, while the AquaPlay 150 offers a captivating pirate ship-themed playground experience for younger children, eliminating the frustration of long lines.

“There’s enormous potential for the cruise industry within Saudi Arabia, especially with AROYA Cruises on the horizon,” stated Mike Rigby, General Manager and Regional Vice President for the Middle East and India at WhiteWater. “As more people embrace cruising as a travel option, the demand for entertainment venues will grow. Water parks are among the most effective ways to accommodate large crowds and keep them engaged for extended periods.”

This innovative approach to entertainment is poised to not only elevate the cruise experience but also solidify Saudi Arabia’s position as a premier cruise destination in the coming years.
