Red Sea Global (RSG), renowned for developing the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism destinations, The Red Sea and Amaala, has made a significant leap towards sustainable transportation. The company is now exclusively using low-carbon biofuel for all its delivery trucks. This makes RSG the first Saudi company to maintain such an eco-friendly supply chain, with its entire fleet of land vehicles powered by either electricity or biofuel.
In alignment with RSG’s vision for a greener future, all trucks transporting goods to The Red Sea’s four hotels—Turtle Bay Hotel, Six Senses Southern Dunes Resort, St. Regis Red Sea Resort, and Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve—along with Red Sea International Airport, now run on sustainable biofuel. This transition from conventional diesel not only reduces carbon emissions but also extends the engine life of the vehicles, delivering both environmental and operational benefits.
The biofuel used by RSG is produced from used cooking oil sourced within the Kingdom. This type of biofuel emits only 0.17kg of CO2 equivalent per liter, a significant reduction compared to the 2.7kg CO2 equivalent per liter from regular diesel.
RSG’s fleet includes six 8-ton refrigerated trucks and three 3.5-ton refrigerated trucks, all operating on biofuel. These vehicles are essential to RSG’s extensive supply chain network, ensuring efficient transportation of goods to all company projects.
To enhance the efficiency of this green initiative, RSG employs advanced technology. Each vehicle is fitted with a chip that tracks daily biofuel consumption. This data helps fleet managers analyze and optimize fuel usage, further promoting the sustainability of RSG’s operations and bolstering its environmental stewardship.
In addition, RSG exclusively uses 100% solar-sourced electricity to power its electric vehicles, ensuring minimal carbon emissions from its land transportation fleet.
This achievement also aligns with RSG’s long-term goal of transitioning to green hydrogen across its mobility sector. By 2030, RSG plans to expand its sustainable vehicle fleet to between 700 and 800 vehicles, transforming transportation in Saudi Arabia and setting a new standard for sustainable supply chains.
