The State of Qatar has urged nations to enforce laws that criminalize violations against women and children in conflict and post-conflict situations. This appeal emphasizes ensuring justice and accountability for offenders and providing remedies and compensation to victims in line with international law. The statement was part of a joint declaration on the protection of women and children, delivered by Her Excellency Dr. Hend Abdulrahman Al Muftah, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, during the 57th session of the Human Rights Council.
The declaration, supported by 134 countries, highlighted that women and children are disproportionately affected by violence and displacement during and after armed conflicts. Her Excellency Dr. Al Muftah pointed out that these violations often escalate to genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, emphasizing the need for international law compliance to protect the human rights of women and children in these dangerous environments.
