Interviewer: Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam, a distinguished figure in both the political and business arenas. With a wealth of experience in finance, strategic planning, and community service, Mahmoud’s journey has inspired many. Welcome, Mr. Mahmoud, and thank you for joining us.

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: Thank you. It’s a pleasure to be here and share my story.

Interviewer: Let’s start from the beginning. You earned your Bachelor of Commerce from Cairo University and graduated with distinction. How did that shape the trajectory of your career?

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: My time at Cairo University was pivotal. Graduating with a high ranking gave me the confidence to pursue ambitious goals in finance. It wasn’t just about academic achievement; the education I received provided me with a solid foundation to think critically and analytically, which became essential in my later roles in auditing, accounting, and risk management.

Interviewer: After graduating, you pursued further qualifications, including becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Risk Analyst. How did these certifications influence your professional journey?

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: Obtaining these certifications allowed me to expand my expertise on a global level. Being a CPA opened doors to work internationally, and becoming a Certified Risk Analyst equipped me with the tools to manage complex financial challenges. This was particularly valuable when I moved to Kuwait and began working with major financial institutions and large corporations, where I helped guide strategic planning and risk management.

Interviewer: You currently hold a key position as Vice Chairman of an investment and wealth management company in Kuwait. Can you share more about your role there?

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: As the Vice Chairman, my role is multi-faceted. I oversee the company’s strategic planning, risk management, and investment strategies. My background in auditing and corporate finance allows me to contribute to restructuring financial systems and ensuring the sustainability of our investments. It’s been an enriching experience to work on such a global scale, and I’m proud of the impact we’ve made in various industries, from banking to real estate.

Interviewer: It’s clear that your career in finance and investment is extensive. But you’ve also played a prominent role in Egyptian politics. What motivated you to transition into the political arena?

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: My motivation has always been to give back to my community. After years of working in the private sector, I realized that I could contribute to broader societal change through politics. As the Vice President of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, I’ve worked on policies that promote social justice, economic reform, and transparency. Politics provides a platform to implement meaningful change, and I believe that my background in finance helps me bring a unique perspective to the table.

Interviewer: Speaking of giving back, you’re also the founder of the Association of the Sons of Draksa for Charity. Tell us more about your work with this organization.

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: The Association of the Sons of Draksa for Charity is very close to my heart. It was founded to support families in need, particularly in the Dakahlia Governorate, where I grew up. We provide financial assistance, but we also focus heavily on healthcare. For instance, we’ve played an active role in the detection and treatment of hepatitis C and helped many people receive life-saving cancer treatments. Recently, we’ve shifted our focus to fighting COVID-19, providing essential medical supplies, sanitization materials, and other resources to help protect our community.

Interviewer: That’s truly commendable. What has been the most rewarding part of your community work?

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: Seeing the tangible difference we’ve made in people’s lives. Whether it’s providing financial support to a struggling family or helping someone recover from illness, it gives me immense satisfaction. The pandemic has been a particularly challenging time, but it also showed the resilience of our community and the power of collective action. The association’s efforts to provide medical supplies and preventive tools during COVID-19 reminded me how important it is to stay connected to the needs of the people.

Interviewer: Your journey is a remarkable blend of professional success, political influence, and philanthropy. Looking back, what do you think has been the key to your success?

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: The key has been a combination of hard work, continuous learning, and staying grounded in my values. My academic achievements opened doors, but it was my commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth that kept me moving forward. Whether in business, politics, or community service, I’ve always tried to approach challenges with integrity and a sense of responsibility. Staying true to these principles has helped me navigate different aspects of my career and life.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to young professionals who aspire to have a diverse and impactful career like yours?

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: My advice would be to stay curious and never stop learning. Your education doesn’t end when you receive your degree; it’s a lifelong process. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and take on new challenges. Also, remember that success is not just about personal achievement. True success comes from making a positive impact on the world around you, whether through your career, community, or both.

Interviewer: Lastly, what’s next for you? What are your future goals?

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: I plan to continue my work in both finance and politics. I’m committed to furthering the economic development of Egypt and continuing to support communities in need through charitable initiatives. On a personal level, I hope to keep learning and growing, taking on new challenges that push me to think in different ways. Ultimately, my goal is to leave behind a legacy of positive change—both in the business world and in the communities I serve.

Interviewer: Thank you, Mr. Mahmoud, for sharing your inspiring journey with us. Your story is a testament to how dedication, education, and a sense of responsibility can lead to great achievements.

Mahmoud Sami Al-Imam: Thank you. I’m honored to share my experiences and hope they inspire others to pursue their own paths with purpose and passion.
