The Dubai Metro Music Festival, a much-anticipated event in the city’s cultural calendar, is set to return for its fourth edition from September 21 to 27, 2024. Organized by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), this vibrant event will transform five major Dubai metro stations into bustling cultural hubs.
Key Stations to Host Musical Performances
Throughout the week, five metro stations – The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, BurJuman, Union, and DMCC – will serve as performance stages, where 20 musicians from the UAE and around the world will showcase their talents. These performances, covering a wide range of musical genres and styles, aim to entertain and inspire daily commuters, turning routine metro rides into dynamic artistic experiences.
A Milestone Celebration of Dubai Metro’s 15th Anniversary
Rashed Al Mulla, the Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at RTA, highlighted the significance of this year’s festival, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the Dubai Metro. He noted that the festival exemplifies RTA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors, while fostering happiness and cultural engagement in the city.
Diverse Musical Talent
Shaima Al Suwaidi, Director of Brand Dubai, emphasized the festival’s role in promoting Dubai’s reputation as a global hub for creativity and innovation. This year’s edition will feature musicians from diverse backgrounds, turning ordinary metro commutes into remarkable showcases of artistic expression.
Among the notable highlights are performances by a nine-year-old qanun prodigy and a special appearance by a 14-year-old Emirati pianist with autism, both showcasing the festival’s dedication to nurturing young talent and inclusivity.
A Vibrant Array of Instruments and Styles
The festival will offer a diverse array of performances, blending traditional and contemporary musical styles. Musicians will play a variety of instruments, from classical strings such as the qanun and violin, to innovative percussion instruments crafted from recycled materials, ensuring a rich, eclectic soundscape for the audience.
Performance Schedule and Venue Information
Performances will take place daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at all five participating metro stations, providing a rotating schedule of artists and styles throughout the week. This initiative promises to turn Dubai’s metro stations into lively cultural hubs, making the daily commute a unique and immersive artistic journey.
