Construction Industry in KSA

Given the disruption brought on by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Saudi Arabian construction sector experienced growth of 1.9% in 2020 and 1.3% in real terms the previous year (2021), which is a relatively encouraging result. Furthermore, the improvement in the state of the world economy, the relaxation of COVID-19 regulations, and a rise in oil prices, all contributed to the industry’s output in 2021. In addition, the government’s initiatives to build transportation and energy infrastructure and its emphasis on diversifying the economy away from oil are predicted to support the industry’s annual average growth of 4.1% from 2023 to 2026.

Vision 2030
Saudi Arabia’s private and public sector firms have been concentrating on changes as part of the nation’s extensive economic transformation, advancing Vision 2030. The Saudi Arabian government is putting out significant reforms in the economy, education, and related sectors to innovate and diversify the landscape of the Kingdom. The government has created the National Transformation Project (NTP), a strategy to improve three crucial and critical national pillars: economic enablement, citizen living standards, and government operational excellence.

Vision 2030 and the NTP provide the basis for incorporating sustainable development goals into national planning. One of the key goals of Vision 2030 is Life Quality, which is closely related to the SDGs. Everything revolves around the infrastructure and construction industries in Saudi Arabia.

Thanks to ongoing investment and technological advancements, the country is sponsoring a wide variety of projects. These large-scale initiatives aim to broaden economic diversity, create new work opportunities, and increase housing options for lower-income people. As a result, over $1 trillion will be invested in Saudi Arabia’s non-hydrocarbon economy by 2035. Among the significant projects are Neom, the Red Sea Project, Qiddiya Entertainment City, King Abdullah Financial District, and Amaala, to name a few.

These significant infrastructure improvements are the foundation for the Kingdom’s new vision for the future. In addition to these “giga-projects,” Saudi Arabia is sponsoring several social and urban development efforts, such as the Sakani housing project, proving the country’s commitment to promoting development through intelligent technology. Furthermore, the government is sponsoring several municipal infrastructure projects to increase mobility in the Kingdom, including the $22.5 billion Riyadh Metro and the Riyadh Rapid Bus Transit System. Adopting new operational standards, creative project completion techniques, and technology adoption are all driving factors in Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure and construction sector today. These factors all show how quickly the world economy is changing.
