Plans are underway for a $25 billion megaproject in Saudi Arabia, set to become the largest metro system in the world constructed in a single phase.
The King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport will feature six metro lines and 84 stations, with an initial capacity to transport 1.7 million passengers daily, potentially increasing to 3.6 million. The project includes 176 kilometers (109 miles) of rail with 190 trains, as well as 2,860 bus stops across 80 routes served by 842 buses.
The new network will connect King Khalid International Airport, King Abdullah Financial District, downtown Riyadh, several universities, and the public transportation center.

The metro cars will be fully automated, incorporating the latest global technologies.
Reports suggest that the Riyadh Metro will begin operations before the end of the year. This project is part of Saudi Arabia’s effort to diversify its economy beyond oil, focusing on sectors like tourism and financial services. Additionally, construction is progressing on the Jeddah Tower, which will surpass Dubai’s Burj Khalifa as the world’s tallest skyscraper upon completion.
