Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today, Ali. To start, can you tell us about your background and what inspired you to create Tadweem?

Ali: Thank you for having me. My journey began with a strong foundation in supply chain management, retail, and e-commerce. Throughout my career, I noticed a significant gap in the Saudi Arabian market for specialized business models focused on secondhand apparel. This observation, coupled with my passion for both business and the environment, inspired me to start Tadweem.

Growing up in Jeddah, I was always drawn to environmental sustainability. After thorough research, I realized that introducing a sustainable fashion model could address both environmental and economic needs. Tadweem was born out of this realization, aiming to make recycling and sustainable fashion more accessible and impactful in Saudi Arabia.

Interviewer: That’s fascinating. Can you explain what Tadweem is and how it operates?

Ali: Certainly. Tadweem is a social investment company focused on recycling and sustainable fashion. Our mission is to support the environment through the concept of the circular economy, which emphasizes reusing and recycling materials to reduce waste.

Here’s how Tadweem works: We start by collecting used clothes, which are then sorted, cleaned, and sterilized. Once prepared, these clothes are resold through various platforms and exhibitions. Any waste generated during this process is recycled into raw materials for local use. This approach not only extends the life of clothing but also minimizes environmental impact by reducing the need for new resources.

Interviewer: It sounds like Tadweem has a comprehensive approach to sustainability. What do you hope to achieve with this project in the future?

Ali: Our goal at Tadweem is to become a trailblazer in recycling, sustainable fashion, and waste management within Saudi Arabia. We aspire to inspire other companies to adopt environmentally friendly practices and contribute to the Kingdom’s green economy.

In the future, we plan to expand our efforts beyond just clothing to include broader waste management and recycling models. By doing so, we aim to further integrate the concept of a circular economy into everyday life and help accelerate the country’s efforts toward environmental sustainability.

Interviewer: How does Tadweem support environmental sustainability and align with global goals?

Ali: Tadweem’s initiatives align with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For instance:

  • Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12): We promote sustainable fashion and recycling, encouraging responsible consumption patterns and reducing waste.
  • Climate Action (SDG 13): By recycling and reusing materials, we contribute to lowering carbon emissions and mitigating climate change.
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8): Our operations support local economies and create job opportunities within the recycling and fashion sectors.

Through these contributions, Tadweem plays a vital role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s environmental sustainability goals and making a positive impact on a global scale.

Interviewer: It’s clear that Tadweem is making significant strides in sustainability. What message would you like to share with others who are passionate about environmental change?

Ali: I would encourage anyone passionate about environmental change to pursue their vision with determination and creativity. Sustainability is a collective effort, and every small action counts. By leveraging innovative solutions and collaborating with others, we can make a meaningful impact and drive positive change. At Tadweem, we believe that inspiring and empowering others is key to achieving a sustainable future.

Interviewer: Thank you, Ali, for sharing your insights and the inspiring work you’re doing with Tadweem.

Ali: Thank you for the opportunity. It’s been a pleasure discussing our journey and future goals.
