Hassan Allam Construction Saudi Partners with KAUST to Launch Primary Coral Nursery for Environmental Restoration

Hassan Allam Construction Saudi has officially signed a construction works contract for the Primary Coral Nursery as part of the KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative. This initiative stands as the world’s largest coral reef restoration project, developed in collaboration with NEOM and situated at Haddah Beach in northern Saudi Arabia.

The contract signing ceremony gathered notable figures, including Mohamed El Dahshoury, CEO of Hassan Allam Construction; Tony Chan, President of KAUST; Ian Campbell, Vice President of the National Transformation Institute (NTI); Mohamed El Aasar, Managing Director of Hassan Allam Construction Saudi; Mark Gillan, Associate Vice President of Technologies and Special Projects; Sameh Helal, Chief Human Resources Officer at Hassan Allam Holding; and Amr Atiah, Special Projects Director. Various dignitaries also attended to witness this important event.

The scope of this ambitious project includes the construction of the Primary Coral Nursery and associated external infrastructure. Hassan Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, highlighted the significance of this partnership: “Our collaboration with KAUST is a true testament to the power of partnership and collective action in addressing the pressing environmental challenges of our time. The KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative not only aims to restore and protect marine environments but also serves as a model for sustainable conservation efforts.”

The state-of-the-art land-based coral nursery will feature approximately 400 tanks equipped with the latest coral propagation technologies. Dr. Ian Campbell emphasized the initiative’s transformative potential, stating, “Today marks a pivotal moment in the journey to build the world’s largest coral reef restoration initiative. This ambitious program aims to preserve, restore, and enhance 100 hectares of vibrant coral ecosystems in the Red Sea, serving as a beacon of hope for coral conservation efforts globally. We look forward to completing the construction of the land-based facilities of the project in partnership with Hassan Allam.”

The project will initially focus on a 100-hectare reef-scape near Shushah Island, with the ultimate goal of restoring coral reefs throughout the region and beyond. This partnership signifies a major step forward for Hassan Allam Construction Saudi, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation. It showcases the firm’s dedication to impactful and socially responsible projects within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
