Interview with Ammar Sami Ali Hasan Qambar: A Vision for Bahrain’s Future

Interviewer: Ammar, thank you for joining us today. Can you start by telling us about your background and what inspired you to enter politics?
Ammar Sami Ali Hasan Qambar: Thank you for having me. My background is quite diverse. I owned and managed WE EVENT, an international conference planning company, which honed my skills in strategic planning and organizational management. My involvement in sports management, particularly with Al Hala SC, also gave me a unique perspective on community engagement and leadership.
My decision to enter politics was influenced by a desire to serve my community and continue the work my father, Sami Ali Hasan Qambar, had done. His legacy in the Council of Representatives motivated me to step up and contribute to the development of our region. I wanted to address local issues and work towards enhancing the quality of life for our residents.
Interviewer: Your campaign for the Council of Representatives had its share of challenges. Can you share more about that experience?
Ammar Sami Ali Hasan Qambar: Certainly. The campaign was a challenging yet enlightening experience. Initially, I faced issues with being excluded from the voting rolls, which was a significant hurdle. I had to advocate for the inclusion of voter names to ensure fairness in the election process. Additionally, we experienced setbacks when some of our promotional banners were stolen, which was disheartening.
Despite these obstacles, the support from the community was overwhelming. In the first round of voting, I received 31.45% of the votes, which led to a runoff election. I managed to secure 71.31% in the second round, winning against my opponent, Youssef Abdel Ghaffar. This result reinforced my commitment to serving my constituents and addressing their needs.
Interviewer: What are some of the key initiatives and goals you are focusing on as a member of the Council of Representatives?
Ammar Sami Ali Hasan Qambar: My primary focus is on improving local services, supporting economic development, and fostering community engagement. I aim to address pressing issues such as infrastructure development, healthcare, and education. My goal is to ensure that our policies effectively meet the needs of our residents and contribute to the overall growth of our community.
I am also committed to promoting transparency and good governance. It’s important for us to work collaboratively with other members of the Council to drive positive change and make informed decisions that benefit our people.
Interviewer: How do you balance your responsibilities between your business ventures and your role in politics?
Ammar Sami Ali Hasan Qambar: Balancing business and politics requires careful planning and time management. The skills I gained from managing my business are valuable in my political role, and vice versa. Both areas demand dedication, organization, and a commitment to excellence.
I prioritize my responsibilities and ensure that I allocate sufficient time to both my business and political duties. It’s about finding the right balance and staying focused on my goals in each area.
Interviewer: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for Bahrain, and how do you plan to contribute to achieving them?
Ammar Sami Ali Hasan Qambar: My aspirations for Bahrain include fostering sustainable economic growth, improving social services, and enhancing governance. I am committed to working on policies that support these objectives and contribute to the well-being of our citizens.
I plan to continue advocating for effective solutions to local issues and collaborate with various stakeholders to drive progress. My vision is to help create a prosperous and thriving Bahrain where all residents can benefit from the opportunities available.
